INDIA:SWINE FLU(H1N1) ON THE RISE!!!!!

                                             SWINE FLU!!!! 





  • According to a recent report released in the first week of March 2015, the deaths due to Swine Flu in the country went up to 1,239 and more than 23,000 cases have been reported of the disease.
  • Gujarat seems to be the worst affected state in the country followed by various other states.This disease is rapidly spreading and posing severe threat to people across the country.


What is this Swine Flu(H1N1 Virus)?

  • The sporadic H1N1 Swine Influenza Virus(SIV) infection that people can experience has a great potential to produce a number of clinical signs and symptoms. Numbers of the persons with SIV infection have a history of recent,physical contact with pigs before becoming ill.On the other hand, there have been confirmed cases of SIV that have not occurred  through exposure to pigs.


SYMPTOMS:

  • There are a variety of symptoms that are associated with this dangerous virus.They include cough,fever or sore throat,sometimes respiratory illness without fever,diarrhea,vomiting ,headache ,Myalgia ,Dyspnea,fatigue,chills,pneumonia,conjuctivitis etc.

Intensity of the Disease:

  • This SIV is more prevalent in younger adults between the ages of twenty and forty years of age.

Definition of a Swine Flu case:

  • A confirmed case of a SIV is defined as a person who is experiencing an acute respiratory illness combined with laboratory confirmation of one of the following tests:
  • Real-Time RT-PCR
  •  Viral Culture
  • Four-Fold rise in Swine Influenza a virus specific neutralizing antibodies.

Treatment:
One of the methods include Treatment with Antivirals like Zanamir(Relenza) or Oseltamivir(Tamiflu).These recommendations can change as information regarding susceptaibilities become available.

OUR DUTY:

  • This fatal virus is fast spreading and we should try to curb it as soon as possible before it takes away many precious lives.
  • Awareness should be brought among masses about this virus.
  • It is also the duty of every individual to keep the surroundings neat and clean so that we do not lend a helping hand for it's growth.
  • Try to wear masks when moving in crowdy places.
